Blonde. Straw yellow colour, compact and persistent white head. Malty and spicy notes. Hints of banana. Full, round taste. Dry finish with persistent spicy notes. It was created in 1989 thanks to a tax inspector. Legend has it that, tasting the latest product from the Huyghe brewery, he immediately exclaimed: “If I keep drinking this, I’ll start to rave!”. Jean De Laet was suddenly inspired, ordered it to be immediately bottled in Cologne stoneware bottles, and commissioned a student to design the label in exchange for two cases of beer. Today, the label still tells this story, universally recognised as an allegory of alcoholic hallucination: pink elephants, dragons, crocodiles, and birds. Over time, the pink elephant has taken over and become a symbol universally associated with Delirium Tremens.
